TVS Motor Company, a leading player in India’s electric vehicle (EV) market, is preparing to broaden its electric scooter lineup with a new, affordable model. This upcoming scooter will be positioned below the popular TVS iQube and is anticipated to debut before the festive season this year. The move aims to attract price-sensitive consumers in India’s rapidly growing EV sector.
The TVS iQube, introduced in 2020, has consistently ranked among the top three electric two-wheelers in monthly sales. It comes in five variants with battery capacities ranging from 2.2kWh to 5.1kWh, priced between approximately Rs 1 lakh and Rs 2 lakh. The new electric scooter is expected to undercut the iQube in terms of price, features, and battery size to appeal to a wider audience.
With rising component costs and decreasing government subsidies for EVs, manufacturers are focusing on offering competitively priced products. The new TVS e-scooter will likely feature a simpler design, essential equipment, and a smaller battery—potentially using the same 2.2kWh unit or introducing a new, compact option. It is also expected to include a hub-mounted motor, possibly sourced from Bosch, similar to the one used in the iQube.
Although TVS has not officially announced the name, speculation suggests that the scooter could be launched under the popular TVS Jupiter sub-brand. TVS is also developing a Jupiter CNG scooter, set to launch later this year. If both models arrive, Jupiter will become India’s first two-wheeler brand to offer petrol, CNG, and electric variants.
Another possibility is that the new EV could be an electrified version of the iconic XL moped. TVS has filed patents for names such as “XL EV” and “E-XL,” hinting that the new model might be a modern take on the widely-loved XL100. The XL100 remains the most affordable internal combustion engine (ICE) two-wheeler in India, and its electric version could continue this legacy of affordability.
TVS plans to introduce this new scooter in time for the 2025 festive season, capitalizing on the increased consumer demand during this period. Priced between Rs 90,000 and Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom), the scooter is expected to significantly expand TVS’s EV market presence and make electric mobility more accessible to a broader customer base. Further details are anticipated in the coming weeks.
