The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) has released the latest electric vehicle (EV) sales data for the Indian auto industry for February 2026. The report highlights significant year-over-year growth in both passenger cars and two-wheelers, with sales increasing by over 40 percent in each category.
Total electric passenger vehicle sales reached 13,733 units in February 2026, marking a 44.48 percent increase compared to 9,505 units sold in the same month last year. However, this figure is slightly lower than the 18,470 units sold in January 2026. Despite the month-to-month dip, the annual growth underscores the rising demand for electric cars in India.
The two-wheeler EV segment also experienced strong growth, with total sales hitting 1,11,709 units in February 2026. This represents a 45.6 percent increase year-on-year from 76,722 units sold in February 2025. However, sales were down compared to 1,22,812 units sold in January 2026.
C. S. Vigneshwar, President of FADA, noted, “EV retails in February ’26 continued to grow on a year-on-year basis across categories, even as overall EV penetration remained largely range-bound due to much faster growth in ICE volumes. Electric 2W retails stood at 1,11,709 units (+45.60% YoY) with EV share at ~6.6%, while Electric PV retails came in at 13,733 units (+44.48% YoY) with share at ~3.5%.”
Tata Motors maintained its position as the top-selling electric car brand in India, with 5,568 units sold in February 2026, a 38.51 percent increase year-on-year. The automaker offers a diverse range of electric vehicles priced between sub-Rs 10 lakh and almost Rs 30 lakh, catering to various customer segments.
JSW MG Motor India followed in second place, selling 3,312 units, a slight decline of 5.1 percent compared to 3,490 units sold in February 2025. Mahindra secured third place with 2,913 units sold, a significant jump from 508 units in February 2025, reflecting the growing demand for its EVs following the launch of its BE and XEV ranges.
Newcomer VinFast sold 384 units, taking fourth place, while BYD rounded out the top five with 306 units sold. Hyundai, with 304 units, ranked sixth.
Despite the impressive growth in sales, FADA reported that overall EV market penetration remained steady at a low 3.5 percent for the month.
In the electric two-wheeler segment, TVS Motor Company achieved its second consecutive month of selling over 30,000 units in 2026. February 2026 sales stood at 31,614 units, a 66.78 percent increase from 18,955 units sold in February 2025.
