BMW Motorrad India Launches New CE 02 Electric Scooter

BMW Motorrad India has introduced the new CE 02, an electric scooter boasting a bold, futuristic design. This launch follows the successful debut of the CE 04 in July this year. Notably, the CE 02 is imported via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route and is manufactured by TVS Motor Company at its facility in Tamil Nadu.

    Design & Ergonomics

The BMW CE 02 showcases a striking, sci-fi inspired aesthetic, making it a perfect match for Gen-Z buyers and young urban riders. Its flamboyant, minimalistic design includes a double-loop tubular frame and a single-sided swingarm, complemented by minimal body panels that keep the weight low.

The scooter offers a comfortable upright riding position, allowing riders to stay relaxed without excessive forward lean. However, the narrow seat may become uncomfortable after prolonged rides—typically beyond an hour. Riders can switch to the pillion footpegs for a more aggressive posture. While space for a pillion is limited—especially for riders over six feet—some adjustment makes it possible to carry a passenger.

    Range, Power Output & Charging

The CE 02 is equipped with two removable 1.96kWh batteries, delivering an ICAT-certified range of 108 km. These batteries power an electric motor that produces 15 PS and 55 Nm of torque, enabling the scooter to accelerate from 0 to 50 km/h in just three seconds.

It offers multiple riding modes: Flow, Surf, and an optional Flash mode. The Flash mode unlocks a thrilling pace, while regenerative braking is available in Flow and Flash modes, providing mild to aggressive recuperation. Unfortunately, the Surf mode lacks regenerative braking.

Customers can choose an optional Highline package, which includes a faster charger. With the standard charger, the battery reaches 100% in just over five hours, while the faster charger significantly cuts this time. The scooter’s top speed is capped at 95 km/h.

    Ride & Handling

During a test ride in Sector 30, Gurugram, the CE 02 impressed with its nimble handling and comfortable ride quality. Its lightweight build (142 kg) and large tyres make it easy to maneuver through city traffic. The suspension setup effectively absorbs shocks from speed humps and potholes, ensuring a smooth ride.

Despite a front brake with ABS that lacks initial bite, the rear brake provides solid stopping power. The scooter remains stable during cornering and at higher speeds, thanks to its firm suspension. A reverse mode adds convenience, especially in tight parking spots.

    Features & Specifications

The standard CE 02 comes loaded with features, including:

    • Two riding modes: Flow and Surf
    • Single-channel ABS
    • Reverse mode
    • Single disc brakes front and rear
    • Automatic stability control
    • Recuperative stability control
    • Anti-theft alarm preparation
    • All-LED lighting
    • USB Type-C port
    • Adjustable levers
    • Phone connectivity
    • 3.5-inch colour TFT display

Opting for the Highline package adds premium enhancements such as:

    • Body stickers
    • Gold-anodised front forks
    • Tricolour seat
    • Flash riding mode
    • Heated grips
    • Smartphone holder
    • Extended phone connectivity via BMW app
    • 1.5kW faster charger

    Final Thoughts

The BMW CE 02 stands out with its unique design and head-turning style. It combines a fun riding experience, optional fast charging, and removable batteries, all while being made in India. Priced at ₹4,49,500 (introductory, ex-showroom), with the Highline package available as an option, the CE 02 is an exciting choice for those seeking a bold, premium, and eco-friendly electric vehicle.
