Honda has recently made headlines by canceling its upcoming all-electric 0 Sedan and 0 SUV, both scheduled for production in the United States. Despite this setback, the Japanese automaker remains committed to its electric vehicle (EV) goals. Honda is now focusing on its 0 Alpha electric SUV, with close-to-production prototypes recently rolled out for testing in India.
The first images of the 0 Alpha SUV prototype reveal that it closely resembles the radical concept showcased at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show. The design and styling have been largely carried over, with minor adjustments. The vehicle features a flat, upright nose housing LED headlights, potentially linked by an LED daytime running light, and a charge port positioned on the left. The front bumper’s shape remains consistent with the concept.
From the side, the 0 Alpha leans more towards a crossover aesthetic rather than a traditional SUV. It retains the concept's flush door handles, with the rear door handle integrated into the C-pillar. The pronounced thickness of the C-pillar and the flat, squared-off tail section, which houses a U-shaped connected tail-light, are notable design elements.
Although Honda has not released detailed technical specifications yet, insights suggest that the 0 Alpha SUV will be larger than models like the Hyundai Creta Electric and Maruti Suzuki E-Vitara, nearing the size of the BYD Atto 3. The vehicle is expected to offer battery options ranging from 50 to 70 kWh, with Honda aiming for a real-world range of 400 to 500 km.
Honda has made a significant investment of Rs 1,200 crore to commence production of battery electric vehicles at its Tapukara facility in Rajasthan. The 0 Alpha will be the facility's first model, with an anticipated launch in India in 2027. Following its Indian debut, the 0 Alpha will also be exported to Japan.
Despite its premium branding, Honda plans to price the 0 Alpha competitively, likely between Rs 20 to 30 lakh (ex-showroom). This strategy underscores Honda's commitment to making electric vehicles accessible while maintaining its reputation for quality and innovation.
