Ola Electric has opened bookings for its highly anticipated electric scooter, and the response has been overwhelming, with over 1 lakh orders placed within just 24 hours. The scooter, based on the Etergo Appscooter from the Dutch start-up Ola acquired, is set to compete with top models like the Ather 450X, TVS iQube, and Bajaj Chetak.
Ola promises to deliver the best features in its segment, highlighting a best-in-class boot space and an app-based key for a seamless keyless experience. Teaser videos released by the company showcase impressive capabilities, including efficient cornering and class-leading acceleration. The scooter will feature all LED lighting, a digital instrument cluster, and convenient charging via a standard home charger—no special installation required. Users can simply plug their e-scooter into a regular wall socket at home.
In addition to cutting-edge features, Ola Electric introduces a revolutionary home delivery experience. Unlike traditional models that rely on a dealership network, Ola Electric scooters will be delivered directly to buyers’ doors across India. According to a report by First Post, Ola plans to establish storage hubs nationwide to facilitate faster, hassle-free deliveries. The company has even set up a dedicated logistics department to manage the entire process, from booking to delivery.
Every step, including booking and loan applications, will be conducted online, with Ola’s support team assisting buyers throughout. The company is also considering door-step service for maintenance and spare parts, potentially eliminating the need for a traditional dealership network altogether—a strategy already employed by Tesla.
The scooter is expected to be named “Series S,” based on recent trademarks filed by Ola Electric. The company has trademarked three names: S1, S1 Pro, and Series S. It is speculated that the S1 will be the base variant, while the S1 Pro will offer a more premium experience. The Series S could serve as the entry-level standard version.
Bookings for the Ola Electric scooter are now open with a down payment of Rs 499, which is fully refundable. Company Chief Bhavish Aggarwal announced via Twitter that the website experienced issues due to high demand, but these have since been resolved, and bookings are now proceeding smoothly.
Production of the Ola Electric scooter will take place in the company’s new manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. This plant, spanning 500 acres, is poised to become the largest two-wheeler facility in the world and the most advanced green factory. With an initial investment of Rs 2,400 crores, the facility has a planned annual capacity of 20 lakh units.
The plant will create over 2,000 jobs initially, increasing to 10,000 once fully operational, marking a significant step forward for Ola Electric and the electric vehicle industry in India.
