India Yamaha Motor (IYM) has made a bold entry into the electric two-wheeler market with the launch of its first electric scooter, the Yamaha EC-06. Priced at Rs 1,67,600 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the EC-06 will initially be available in select cities through the brand’s premium Blue Square dealerships. This launch represents a major milestone for Yamaha as it begins its shift toward electric mobility in India.
Available in a single Bluish White colour at launch, the Yamaha EC-06 has been developed in India with a global perspective. It is designed specifically for urban commuters seeking a stylish, functional, and eco-friendly daily transportation solution.
One of the standout features of the Yamaha EC-06 is its certified range of 169 km, placing it among the longest-range electric scooters currently available in India. The scooter is powered by an IPMSM (Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) paired with a fixed 4 kWh battery pack.
The electric motor delivers a peak power output of 6.7 kW and a maximum torque of 26 Nm, with a top speed of 79 km/h. Yamaha has optimised the EC-06 for everyday urban riding, ensuring a balance between performance and efficiency. The battery supports standard home charging, requiring approximately eight hours to reach a full charge.
To provide durability and peace of mind, the battery comes with a 3-year or 30,000 km warranty. The scooter is also IP67-rated for the motor and battery, while other electronic components hold an IP65 rating, ensuring protection against both dust and water.
The Yamaha EC-06 offers three riding modes – Eco, Standard, and Power – allowing riders to choose between efficiency and performance depending on the riding conditions. A Reverse Mode is also included, making it easier to navigate tight parking spaces.
The suspension setup includes telescopic front forks with hydraulic dampers and a rear coil spring system, tuned specifically for urban road conditions. For safety, the scooter is equipped with 200 mm disc brakes on both wheels, supported by a Combi Brake System (CBS) to enhance braking stability.
The EC-06 features a colour LCD instrument cluster that displays real-time data such as speed, battery status, range, riding modes, and connectivity alerts. It is compatible with the Yamaha Motor Connect R app, allowing riders to access vehicle data and smart features via their smartphones.
The scooter boasts full LED lighting, including the headlamp and taillamp, improving visibility and adding to its modern aesthetic. Yamaha has also incorporated a generous 24.5-litre under-seat storage, making it ideal for daily commuting needs like carrying a helmet or small bags. The design reflects Yamaha’s signature style with clean lines, a stable stance, and elevated proportions, enhancing maneuverability in city traffic.
With the EC-06, Yamaha aligns itself with India’s growing focus on electrification and sustainability, supporting national initiatives such as the National Mission on Transformative Mobility and the government’s Net-Zero 2070 target. The company emphasises its commitment to localisation and aims to support India’s expanding EV ecosystem through future-ready products.
Initially, the EC-06 will be available in select markets, with plans to expand its rollout based on customer response and infrastructure readiness. The launch of the EC-06 marks Yamaha’s first step into India’s rapidly evolving electric two-wheeler segment, a space where competition is growing across various price points and use cases.
